92nd Academy Award Winners
On Sunday night in Los Angeles, Parasite made history at the 92nd Academy Awards. The first foreign film to win the Best Picture award at the Oscars. Not only this, Parasite won 3 more awards including the award for director Bong Joon Ho, international feature film and original screenplay. The virtually flawless movie was expected to win.
‘Joker’ was the most nominated movie at the Oscars followed by The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. Talking about nominees, Though Irishman was left in the cloud, Its director Martin Scorsese became the most-nominated director alive in the Academy History. ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ being nominated for 10 award category took home only 2 awards including Actor in a Supporting Role won by Brad Pitt and Best production design. 1917 was highly appreciated for its production and begged 10 nominations, nevertheless, it won 3 awards for Best Cinematography, Best sound mixing, and best visual effects. 92nd Academy Award suffered the resentment for spurning women in the Best Director category (where Greta Gerwig at least deserved a nomination).
As a matter of course, Joaquin Phoenix won the award in the lead actor category for ‘Joker’ whereas Renée Zellweger begged the award for best actress in the leading role for ‘Judy’.
Following the hostless trend from last year, the 92nd Academy Award encountered some of the most memorable moments including a song-and-dance tribute to the nominees featuring Janelle Monae and Billy Porter, a melodious performance by Idina Menzel’s who sung “Into the Unknown” from Frozen 2, Joaquin Phoenix outstanding speech on “Fighting Against Injustice” and a standing ovation to the ultimate legend, Eminem.
