Best Picture Nominees For Oscar 2020
Everybody knows that Oscars is the most prestigious award that the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences distribute every year. Nominations for 92nd Academy Awards were announced on Monday, January 13. John Cho and Issa Rae announced the Best Picture Nominees For Oscar 2020 via global live stream on Oscar.com, Oscars.org, Academy’s Channel on Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and local broadcasters.
It is not a surprise that Joker received the most nominations with whopping 11 nominations including categories in Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role, and Direction. There are few more movies with multiple nominations such as The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood, with 10 nominations received by each. The list of Best Picture Nominees For Oscar 2020 is a long one with 9 Nominations that are as follows:
#1 Ford V Ferrari
This has been an unusual nomination in the list of Best picture. The historic racing drama Ford v Ferrari starring Matt Damon and Christian Bale is a darned solid film. The movie is loved by the motorheads and non-racers alike. The high-velocity bromance left the audience thrilled. There is a high chance that this movie will take away the award as it is profoundly approved by the critics. Also, It is based on a true story of a rivalry of the mid-60s where the pals work with the Ford corporation to defeat the artisans of Ferrari.
#2 The Irishman
With 10 Nominations in the 92nd Academy Awards, The Irishman is nominated for the Best Picture for some good reasons. This movie is a gangster classic with the cast that comes out once in a lifetime. Martin Scorsese collaborated for the 9th time with Robert De Niro and presented an absolute masterpiece. The movie is about an old man who is a World War II vet. He is a sniper who works with various notorious personalities one of which is Jimmy Hoffa, who disappears leaving an unsolved mystery.
#3 Jojo Rabbit
This movie bagged 6 Nominations including the “Best Picture”. JOJO RABBIT shines through its Drama and Comedy with a message. This Dramedy is a satirical one starring Roman Griffin Davis as Jojo, a young boy whose life changes drastically when he finds out that his single mom is hiding a young Jewish girl. Jojo is a lonely boy whose only companion is his imaginary friend Adolf Hitler, Jojo must deal with his blind nationalism as he thinks that he is a Nazi.
#4 Joker
Joker received 11 Nominations and it is not a surprise. This Psychological thriller is highly appreciated globally. The legendary performance by Joaquin Phoenix made it an unforgettable movie. Joker revolves around a man who struggles to find his way through Gotham’s fractured society. Arthur aka Joker aspires to become a stand-up Comedian but finds that he himself is being the laughter stock among people. Joker stuck between apathy and cruelty makes a bad decision that makes him reckless.
#5 Little Women
“Little Women” also received multiple nominations along with the Best picture. Directed by Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird), the movie takes back to the late 1860s, revolving around four ambitious sisters who want to live their life on their own terms. The Story strongly suggests that love and marriage are not the only fit for women. It is a sensitive movie with a whole fascinating cinematic experience. Being in a non-acting category, there are chances that Greta Gerwig will win Adapted Screenplay as there are no nominations for women in Best Director Category due to which Oscar-watchers are upset.
#6 Marriage Story
This movie is nominated for the best picture along with 5 other nominations. The “marriage story” is highly appreciated by the critics. After being nominated in the 77th Golden Globe Awards and BAFTA Film Awards, this romantic Comedy-Drama has a high chance to win Oscar. Marriage Story revolves around a stage director and his actor wife struggling for a bi-coastal divorce. It is a story about a marriage breaking up and a family staying together. This is the movie that made its audience cry their hearts out.
#7 1917
We all know that “1917” did excellently well at Sunday’s British Academy Film Awards by winning 7 awards. “1917” got a nomination for “Best picture” along with 9 other nominations. The World War I epic kept its audience on the edge of their seats. The movie follows two British soldiers, Schofield and Blake who are given an impossible mission of sending a message to the isolated regiment situated on the other side of the enemy territory. The message can save thousands of soldiers from falling into the trap of massacre.
#8 Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood
A film by Tarantino, for Tarantino, made with signature Tarantino scenes. There is a good reason why ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ Received Six-Minute Standing Ovation at Cannes Film Festival. Tarantino mingled fantasy and real history in the movie and presented one of its finest masterpieces. It is about two pals Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio) and his longtime stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) who are aging and struggling to make it in the Golden age of Hollywood.
#9 Parasite
This is less a movie more a mirror. Bitter but true. Parasite is a South Korean movie nominated for the “Best Picture” award. The devoid lives of the family shown in the movie are no less than a nightmare. Parasite takes you through the strange and astonishing things that include Intrigue, violence, gore, and humor. This movie has got the highest approvals from critics, Higher than any other nominations in “Best Picture”. This haunting Dramedy is a tough competition for other Nominations for the Oscar “Best Picture” award.
