ClipHash Beginnings: How and Why Halloween started
How and Why Halloween started: 2020, what a crappy year this has been. Isn’t it? Lots of things went wrong this year, but Miss Rona takes the piece of cake for being the biggest downer we all ever came across. However, there is one thing we can’t let Miss Rona ruin, and that’s Halloween. October is already here, and none of us can contain our excitement anymore. Fall has already started to spread its warmth, we are already dying to eat all the pies we can, and the heavenly smell of pumpkin spice latte has got all of us drooling. And I think after reading all this, it must be clear to you that we are gonna go full rogue on Halloween.
In this house of Halloween-obsessed people, we get in the spooky mood right on October 1st (Halloween is not for a day, it’s a month-long celebration that we adore. ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT!!!). And this year also, the drill is the same..you, me, and all of us are going to enjoy Halloween at its fullest and Miss Rona is just gonna cry.
Even though there will be a few changes in our celebrations this year, but some things will remain the same…we are still going to carve our dearest jack-o’-lanterns, light some hella good (and safe) bonfires, go trick-or-treating (if it is allowed & safe) & visit some haunted attractions to get scared out of our wits. But before doing all that awesome stuff, let’s try & get to know more about our beloved Halloween.
There’s one thing that Miss Rona hasn’t taken over and that’s Halloween! October’s already here and to be honest, I can’t hold the excitement anymore! Even though there will be a few changes in our celebrations this year, some things will still remain the same. We will still carve our pumpkins, light beautiful bonfires with loved ones and my favourite, visit haunted houses!
How & Why Halloween Started?
In the midst of enjoying all the Halloween festivities & eating all the treats we can, we all wondered how & why Halloween started? Didn’t we? So why not today, here at ClipHash, we learn more about the history of the night of 31st October, Halloween. The history of Halloween goes all the way back to more than 2,000 years. It is widely believed that the tradition of Halloween began from ancient Celtic harvest festivals, particularly the Gaelic festival Samhain. Held around the 1st of November, Samhain means “summer’s end”.
Samhain may have had pagan roots and it celebrated the crossing of spirits over into another world & also marked the final day of harvest.
Historically, people in France, the U.K., and Ireland lit sacrificial bonfires and wore costumes to ward off ghosts.
Then, in the eighth century, the 1st of November got designated as a time to honour all saints by Pope Gregory III. After a short time, All Saints Day included some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before All Saints Day was known as “All Hallows Eve”, which later came to be regarded as Halloween.
And this is how one of the most fun yet spooky celebrations i.e. Halloween started.
PS. Don’t forget to wash your hands, always remember to carry a hand sanitizer, and put on your face mask …we care for you & want you to be safe.
