Game Of Thrones actress Emilia Clarke Turned Down ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ Because of Nudity
Emilia Clarke was initially offered a lead role in the erotic drama ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’ in 2015 which she turned down for an empowering reason.
She refused to do the role of ‘Anastasia Steele’ for the erotic drama which later was signed on by actress Dakota Johnson.
Although, Clarke openly complimented the film’s director Sam Taylor-Johnson that she’s a “magician” with a “beautiful vision”. But the actress also explained that going nude for the movie was still a firm no.
The actress’s stance comes from her past experience on HBO’s Game Of Thrones.
Clarke said, “But the last time that I was naked on camera [on Game of Thrones] was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman. And it’s annoying as hell and I’m sick and tired of it because I did it for the character—I didn’t do it so some guy could check out my tits, for God’s sake. So, that coming up, I was like, ‘I can’t.'”
She added, “I did a minimal amount and I’m pigeonholed for life, so me saying yes to that, where the entire thing is about sensuality and sex and being naked and all of that stuff, I was just like, ‘No way am I going to voluntarily walk into that situation and then never be able to look someone in the eye and be like, ‘No, you can’t keep asking me this question.'”
Clarke went on to explain that she did not regret any of the scenes, as they were necessary for the show and show’s story.
In the 2015 cover story of ‘The Hollywood Reporter’, Emilia said she does not want to get nude on-camera because she’d “done nudity before and was concerned with being labeled for doing it again.”
