Justin Timberlake Was One of Elton John’s Initial Picks for ‘Rocketman’
Taron Egerton who portrays Sir Elton John in his biography, drama ‘Rocketman’ may have gotten rave reviews but the rocketman himself may have had someone else in mind to play him.
Elton John and husband David Furnish had someone else in mind, someone else being none other the singer, songwriter, and actor Justin Timberlake.
John’s husband and Rocketman producer David Furnish said that Elton had Timberlake in mind after he featured in the music video “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore” as the man of the moment.
Justin Timberlake starred in the music video for John’s 2001 hit song “This Train Don’t Stop There Anymore”.
Furnish noted, “But we never formerly approached Justin because we weren’t ever at a stage where it was the right time to approach him, but he did an amazing job in the video. He put on a prosthetic nose, and it turned out to have been some really interesting acting work as well.”
Another almost Rocketman was the Venom star Tom Hardy but Sir Elton seemed to throw a little shade on what happened there.
Sir Elton told the crowd at the Cannes afterparty that “Taron Egerton came onboard this film because somebody else dropped out. His performance in this film is scary brilliant. … When I watch the movie, I don’t see an actor, I see myself.”
