MacKenzie Bezos Signs Giving Pledge, Will Give Half of Fortune to Charity
Fresh off her divorce from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Bezos is ready to share the love.
MacKenzie Bezos is joining the list of billionaires like Warren Buffett and Bill Gates in the Giving Pledge.
On Tuesday, MacKenzie pledged to give half of her $36 Billion fortune away to worthy causes during her lifetime.
The ‘Giving Pledge’ was launched by Warren Buffett and Bill Gates 9 years ago and the pledge calls for the richest to give away half or more of their wealth to Charity.
In an open letter, MacKenzie wrote that she saw no benefit in hoarding her wealth, for a later time. “In addition to whatever assets life has nurtured in me,” she said, “I have a disproportionate amount of money to share. My approach to philanthropy will continue to be thoughtful. It will take time and effort and care. But I won’t wait. And I will keep at it until the safe is empty.”
MacKenzie and Jeff finalized their divorce back in April ending a 25-year marriage and as a part of their agreement, MacKenzie received a 4% stake in amazon registered in her name.
And proving Exs can be friends, Jeff praised her decision on Twitter, writing, “MacKenzie is going to be amazing and thoughtful and effective at philanthropy, and I’m proud of her. Her letter is so beautiful. Go get ‘em MacKenzie.”
