Prison For Profit

Recently, Kanye West came under a lot of fire for Tweeting about abolishing the 13th Amendment. People asked, “Why would anyone want to do away with the amendment that ended Slavery?” Personally, I was shocked at how many people overlooked the motive just because of the messenger. Read the fine print, people. The 13th Amendment clearly states that slavery is abolished in the United States and all of its jurisdiction, “…except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted.” In English, this means that if you get convicted, you’re still a slave.
