The Smart & lovable Labrador Retriever named Top Dog
American Kennel Club ranks the breed as the most popular for the 28th straight year consistently.
“The Labrador retriever shows no signs of giving up the top spot anytime soon. Labs make wonderful companions for a wide variety of people, and for good reason.” -Gina DiNardo, AKC Executive Secretary.
The Lab’s sweet nature and loyalty help keep it at the number one spot. It is a friendly companion and a useful working dog breed.
The early ancestors of the breed came from coastal villages in Newfoundland, Canada in the 1500s. The fisherman would use them to retrieve stray fish that escaped from their nets.
In 1917, the American Kennel Club recognized the dog as an official breed.
Sweet-faced and fun loving Labrador is a famous service animal due to its intelligence and eagerness to please.
“This is a do-everything breed that needs to be with its humans. It personifies the definition of versatility.” -Erin Henlon-Hall, Breeder, via AKC
